Ballet and Spanish Dance Academy

The Academy

Local School

The Ballet and Spanish Dance Academy opened in September 2004 and is run by the Principal Natisha Baxter AISTD dip, SDS IdB (1). The dance forms taught are ballet, Spanish Dance (Flamenco, Folk and Classical), Modern Theatre Dance, Jazz and Tap. Most classes take place in Bardsey Village Hall, which is a lovely open space, complete with sprung floor and ballet barres. It is easily accessible from the A58 and has a car park directly outside. Natisha also runs adult Pilates classes in Bardsey and nearby East Keswick.

Dancing for Life

The aim of the Academy is for both children and adults to enjoy and develop their love of dancing.
By learning new skills and improving their technique in a friendly and encouraging environment, students become accomplished and confident performers. Students can start from as young as 3 years, and there are also classes for adults. The dancing is of course great for physical as well as mental well being, helping to increase strength, flexibility and poise as well as developing social skills and confidence.

The Academy offers the chance to take exams with the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing and the Spanish Dance Society, whose syllabi are approved by the Qualifications Curriculum Authority.

Workshops and Performances

From time to time the Academy runs workshops, Academy shows and theatre trips to help broaden students’ knowledge. There is also the opportunity for students to take part in performances with other theatre groups and at local events.

As a qualified practitioner, Natisha runs Pilates matwork classes and offers private tuition (by arrangement). Pilates is excellent for increasing core stability and strength, improving joint mobility and coordination. It is complementary not only to dance, but to any sports or general fitness activities.
